Dayton SCORE Workshops

Dayton SCORE offers a variety of free and fee-based business courses to meet your current situation and greatest business challenges. The core of these workshops is a universal curriculum based on the SCORE BusinessWorx universal planning model which will also provide a foundation for consistent counseling services and common counseling resources. We recommend the following three step process to help structure the most beneficial educational experience for your needs.

Introduction to Web Based Marketing

Target Audience: Entrepreneurs who have a dream for their for-profit business or non-profit organization but do not have a clear understanding of how to economically market their organization.

Workshop Description: A practical "How-To" overview of web-based marketing and determine how it fits your organization. Time for individualized question and answer discussion with experienced marketers.

Key Audience Benefits: Attendees will: achieve an understanding of how to incorporate web-based marketing to generate sales, limiting the cost of marketing using on-line methods, and when it is most effective to use a professional. A worksheet is provided that contains key web links to resources needed to effectively market online.

Expected Outcomes: This workshop will provide a broad overview of web-based marketing that will provide you with an understanding of:

  1. Marketing basics used in web based marketing,
  2. The steps to create a professional looking website,
  3. The role of your website as the foundation for economical marketing,
  4. How to increase site traffic and the search engine ranking of your website,
  5. How to evaluate the performance of your website, and
  6. Incorporating social media into your web based marketing.

Expected Outcome: Attendees will acquire the knowledge and information to make educated decisions about what types of digital marketing are most effective for their type of new or existing business and what it will cost.

Note: Four additional paid group sessions make up this series: advanced website creation, creating a website using Wordpress, effective search engine optimization and analytic tools, and using social media marketing.

Supercharge your small business sales using internet based marketing

This workshop is designed to help e small businesses and nonprofit organizations effectively use email and social media marketing to build closer relationships with customers and supporters.  This is a workshop for beginners in online marketing who want to accomplish more in less time - with a small budget.  Topics covered will include:

1.  What type of content to use in your campaigns;
2.  How to get more people to read your messages;
3.  How to get more action- or reaction to your promotions;
4.  Why using images on social media networks creates higher engagement; and
5.  Why your content should be mobile-friendly.

You’ll learn what it means to run effective email and/or social media marketing campaigns and what tools you can use to measure the success of your efforts without spending lots of time or money.

Participants will leave with a worksheet of ideas for timing their messages, how to write a winning subject line,  what kinds of offers to try and how to approach their next outreach project.

Workshop Description: Whether you are starting a new business or have one up and running, this workshop will provide a guide for developing a plan that will significantly improve your chances of being successful. The workshop will show you how to build a plan that produces a deep understanding of the market and competitive environment in which your business operates; how to develop strategies for generating a competitive advantage; how to generate solid projections of the financial consequences of operating your business; and how to use your plan to monitor and control your business’s operations. If you will need outside funding for your business, a first-rate business plan is a must. But, even if you won’t, your investment of time and energy in building a good business plan will provide you a substantial return.
