Hot Rod Enthusiast Opens his Own Shop
Starting his own business was a dream come true for Robert Bennett. Like many young men, he had always been a "car nut." After working for a period in landscaping, he was thrilled when he landed a job in a car repair body shop.
While he was skilled in detailing, he started at the bottom as a "wash boy" and worked his way up as a collision body repair specialist. After gaining the necessary skills and 12 years of experience, he decided that this was the time to go after his dream and see if he could open his own shop. He wanted to specialize in custom sheet metal fabrication for autos and street rods.
Not knowing where to start, he followed the advice of a friend and made an appointment with Volunteer Counselor Emerson Shank of the Dayton, OH SCORE Chapter. Having retired after owning his own business, Shank was able to guide Bennett through the basic start-ups steps of permits and information sources, as well as development of a business plan. |
